10 cool iPhone apps for kids

Media_httpfarm5static_jzfnv

No, the iPhone isn't a toy (well, not for kids anyhow), but the younger set likes it, too. What applications can you put on your iPhone or iPod touch to keep your children happy?

This is a comprehensive list of cool apps that encompasses a little bit of everything from education to art and music with plenty of creative fun sandwiched in between. And make no mistake, these apps are cool.

  • Bookworm: Sometimes parents don't want their children simply wasting time by playing a mindless video game or watching T.V. That's where "Bookworm" comes into play. Each time you play a game in "Bookworm," your goal is to score points by linking letters to form words. Cost: $2.99
  • Build a Robot: This fun app is perfect for creative kids and might even appeal to teens and adults. "Build a Robot" is a lot like playing with a Mr. Potato Head. You can select arms, legs, body, head and facial features to create a unique robot every time. When you're done, you can choose to color your creation or leave it black and white. Cost: $1.99
  • SpinArt: "SpinArt" is an app that creates colorful art on a spinning canvas. You start with a blank sheet of paper, a palette of vibrant paints and your imagination. With a spin of your finger you can create colorful art. You can change the color of your canvas or even start by using a picture from your photo library. Cost: $0.99

For kids 8+ LikeItSounds!, the first released app in a series of word game apps is a great pick! The gameboard is filled with sliding, brightly illustrated tiles that kids move around to learn homonyms as they solve silly riddles. Kids broaden their vocabularies, improve their spelling and have a lots of non-violent fun. It's amusing for adults as well and makes a great a great game to play with your kids.

I would add BabyCounting - app released a while ago that mixes learing and fun but stressing educational issues for preschoolers. Kids learn to count numbers 0 through 10 with the help of several exercises making them to master their knowledge in counting. Animated characters, music, verbal assistance help kid in his way to success. I happened to quote developers on other upcoming apps and they said they had tones of addicting educational exercises for kids to be released in a short run. Have fun!

My kids love LitteFish. They love to move the iPhone to control the fish. Nice drawings too (shark, jelly fish, anemone...), decent sound.

I also have a suggestion for parents, who have kids of 5-10 years old. It also makes sense to consider such an educational iPhone app as Kinder Hangman - http://sharkfuel.com/kinderhangman.html it is an interesting iPhone game that is very useful for development of kids and allows children to learn new words easily. Learning process is organized as an interesting game with graphical themes and animations. It is a good game that kids usually like very much. So, parents can use it to keep kids busy. Many parents say that Kinder Hangman iPhone app is a good way to keep children busy.
