10 foods to buy organic (and 15 to not)

No one likes to start their morning with a plate filled with pesticides, but buying everything organic can break the bank for those of us on a budget. The solution? Pick and choose what to buy organic. Not all fruits and vegetables absorb pesticides the same, so if you know what soaks up contaminants like a sponge and what doesn’t, you’ll be all set for your next trip down the produce aisle.

The Environmental Working Group—a nonprofit, nonpartisan group—has identified fifteen fruits and veggies least likely to be tainted with pesticide residues and can therefore be purchased without an organic sticker:

  • Asparagus
  • Avocado
  • Broccoli
  • Cabbage
  • Eggplant
  • Kiwi
  • Mango

Now for the fruits and veggies that cling to pesticides and should be bought organic, if possible:

  • Apples
  • Carrots
  • Celery
  • Cherries
  • Grapes (imported)
  • Kale
  • Lettuce

I thought so too Prune. My mum told me make sure I should get organic broccoli. I wouldn't mind getting a scienitific report as to how they measure and come to this conclusion though
