10 ways to make your blog more social

Media_httpwwwtoptenzn_hucdi

On top of producing regular quality content, it’s important for bloggers to ensure their site is comment-friendly and social. After all, if you don’t have a healthy two-way relationship with your readers, what’s the point? Here are ten ways to make your blog more sociable. See a few tips below:

  • Install plug-ins that allow users to edit their comments. A reader is more likely to comment when they know they can correct a typo if necessary.
  • Give yourself and your users the option to subscribe to comments. If you’re notified of a new comment, you’ll remember to check back into the conversation.
  • Use sociable. It’s a WordPress plug-in that allows visitors to easily share your content on variety of top social bookmarking and networking sites.

Unfortunately, I think editing comments is just too much of a liability. If someone responds to a comment, the first person could change their comment and have the responder agreeing with whatever they want!

Also, the TopTenz site does not say that a reader is more likely to comment if they know they are able to edit the comment. How would you even be able to prove that? There's nothing that says "edit comment" until after the comment has been posted.

I like Ning's approach, where you have up to 15 minutes after posting to correct a comment. This allows for correcting the type, but would not allow you to fundamentally change your comment after responses were posted...
