100 words every high school graduate should know

The editors of American Heritage dictionaries have compiled a list of 100 words that they recommend every high school graduate should know. I admit I had to lookup the following words:

  • gerrymander
  • inculcate
  • ziggurat

How’s your high school level vocabulary? More about education.

Hate to be a nitpicker, but spelling counts -- it's "inculcate."

Yup. I'd have known 'inculcate', which was on the list. 'Inculate,' which wasn't on any of the sources Apple's dictionary app links to, struck me as a bizarre choice when IGoogled it to learn what it really means. Seems to me it would wind up on a list of words that those book-banning concerned parents would protest. ;-)

hmmmm, someone's got a typo tho, i have a feeling that the american heritage dictionary does not want high-schoolers inculating or discussing inculations...unless of course, they are fans of sarah palin's "Going Rogue" - http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Going%20Rogue

Typo changed and a good thing I didn't have to use it in a sentence :)

Now, how about a list of 100 locations (prefaced as cities or countries) that every high school graduate should be able to locate on a hard copy map (no using Google Maps)!
