2009 ranking of the world's universities

Academic Ranking of World Universities released the 2009 rankings. #1: Harvard. #2: Stanford. #100: Emory. Eight out of the top ten are in America. Two are in Europe (University of Cambridge and University of Oxford).

There are also rankings by subject areas. For example, in Computer Science, Stanford is #1, and MIT is #2.

I would really like to know how they came up with this pathetic ranking. University of Sydney is 94th?!!! Really? Come on. Even Newsweek knows better than that...

Totally agree Omar, they're certainly not ranked by the number of Nobel Laureates.

Actually the ranking factors in the number of Nobel Prize winners. It's not a perfect system as there are many other factors to consider when picking a school. This shows how they determine it: http://www.arwu.org:80/Methodology2009.jsp
