26% of adults use social media to complain about brands, 23% to praise

In a recent Harris Poll survey, 26 percent of adults reported that they used social media to complain about companies, brands or products, and 23 percent used online networking to affirm them. The same survey also tested the media’s power of persuasion. It found that:

  • 71 percent were swayed a “great deal” or “fair amount” by reviews from friends and family
  • 46 percent were persuaded by newspaper and magazine reviews
  • 45 percent were convinced by friends or family on social media
  • 33 percent were influenced by blogs and message board reviews
