30 secrets about flying that you might not want to know

In this semi-horrifying post, pilots and fight attendants spill the beans about flying. I’m not going to lie, it’s a bit disturbing, and it has changed the way I fly. For example, I will never, ever drink tea or coffee on an airplane again. Why? Because they never clean out the hot water tanks. And the water in the lavatories? Barely clean enough to wash your hands with––whatever you do, do not drink it. And speaking of dirty, you probably want to steer clear of blankets and pillows, as they’re mostly reused without so much as a fluff. As are the headphones.

But it’s not all doom and gloom. There are some other, more interesting and less terrifying facts that you’ll learn in this article. For example:

When you experience a hard landing in bad weather it wasn’t because of a lack of pilot skills but it is in fact intentional. If the runway is covered in water the airplane has to touch down hard in order to puncture the water layer and prevent aqua planing.

This actually makes me feel a lot better, for some reason.

They do change the headphone sponges or at least Virgin does. This I know because prisoners used to be paid £2 a week to change them and would receive no pay if they dared protest the rate of pay. Don’t think Sir Richie was aware of this tho.

If he was, i’m sure he would have put a stop to it. He was probably paying market rates to the greedy government who just viewed the prisoners as cash cows.

And i’m yet to fly Virgin but i’m sure I will.

  • Oh dear what are we going to do bring our own pillows and blankets. do you meam even BC or FC ..gosh. I better bring my own.
