In this semi-horrifying post, pilots and fight attendants spill the beans about flying. I’m not going to lie, it’s a bit disturbing, and it has changed the way I fly. For example, I will never, ever drink tea or coffee on an airplane again. Why? Because they never clean out the hot water tanks. And the water in the lavatories? And speaking of dirty, you probably want to steer clear of blankets and pillows, as they’re mostly reused without so much as a fluff. As are the headphones.
But it’s not all doom and gloom. There are some other, more interesting and less terrifying facts that you’ll learn in this article. For example:
When you experience a hard landing in bad weather it wasn’t because of a lack of pilot skills but it is in fact intentional. If the runway is covered in water the airplane has to touch down hard in order to puncture the water layer and prevent aqua planing.
This actually makes me feel a lot better, for some reason.
