Upcycle in style with the “foot condom”

Media_httpinventorspo_bfnzi

A young Michigan entrepreneur by the name of Jimmy Tomczak was looking for a way to pursue his outdoor lifestyle in barefooted comfort minus the risk of lacerations and hookworm. Like those in pursuit of the perfect prophylactic, Mr. Tomczak sought a material that was tear-resistant, waterproof and lightweight enough to make it seem as though the shoes weren’t even there.

After testing a number of materials that could be upcycled into footwear, it was the cheap solution to his leaking roof that became the basis of the “foot condom,” now commercially known as “Paper Feet.” Using an old billboard costing twenty bucks, Tomczak is able to produce 100 pairs of one-of-a-kind shoes that he sells for thirty dollars a pop. The material is five times thicker than a shower curtain and colorful to boot.

For local employment prospects and the environment, it looks like “Paper Feet” are a step in the right direction. With any luck, Tomczak will release a ribbed version for our walking pleasure in the near future.
