Dont necessarily agree with the "dont follow too many folks". In our case we follow everyone that follows us just in case they need services. I follow cancer, livestrong, etc on tweetdeck and reach out when folks are having a tough time. I wouldnt necessarily do that publicly with everyone depending on how difficult the situation. May be good with customer service businesses too.

I use Hootsuite and Tweetie and so never get to really see anyone's backgrounds They don't matter that much to me. I get tired of all the one-way Tweets. I think the best advice is to actually respond to a few tweets while you're on.
