5 third-party app features Twitter should integrate

Twitter is one of the most useful platforms that really caught on in 2009. I mean, even my mom is tweeting these days. But, the folks over at Twitter seem to be lagging in the innovation department. You may disagree, citing their development of the ability to ReTweet or the concept of user lists as leading functions. Now, I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but the ReTweet function was a user idea that had already been implemented formally by many mobile and desktop applications. And those user lists? Well, Sawhorse Media introduced those. Twitter itself is undeniably one of the most innovative social media developments to date, but instead of trailing behind again in 2010, they should integrate these five features from third-party apps.

1. Auto-completing usernames. Third-party apps that do this include Twitdroid and DestroyTwitter. It’s a rather simple feature, but it makes life a lot easier. When typing an @ reply, it helps to have a cheat sheet in the form of an autocompletion feature that remembers all your friends, and their sometimes wacky usernames.

2. Multimedia uploading and embedding. Third-party apps that do this include PowerTwitter and Twitpic. The convoluted process of uploading media to a third-party app and getting your content synched up to your Twitter account can be frustrating, especially when bugs arise. Not being able to preview photos and videos before clicking through increases pressure too.

Read on for all five features Twitter should introduce in 2010, thus re-inventing themselves as a consistently innovative platform.

Stay on top of social media.
