Buying a car is the worst thing ever. OK, so maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but if you’ve ever had to deal with haggling and fighting with a pushy car salesman, you know just how bad it is. But if you follow these five tips, your life will be a lot easier. For example, instead of just showing up at a dealership to look at cars, start emailing multiple dealerships. That puts you in the position of power, since they all know you’re in touch with their competitors.
Likewise, use Edmunds.com! It’s got a huge wealth of information about car prices in your area. More broadly, though, there is some good news. In general, dealerships are getting rid of those sketchy, pushy salesman and moving towards a flat commission system, meaning that salespeople are given a flat commission for selling a car, not a percentage of the dealership’s profit, meaning there’s no incentive for them to screw you.
