7-year-old raises £70,000 for Haiti relief
A 7-year-old London boy has raised more than £70,000 for Haiti earthquake efforts with a sponsored 7-lap (about 5-mile) bike ride around his local park. After seeing pictures of the earthquake victims on TV, Charlie Simpson became upset, according to the Telegraph.co.uk. So Charlie and his mother, Lenora, talked about what they could do to help. His mom helped him set up an online giving page to raise money for UNICEF relief efforts in Haiti.
“My name is Charlie Simpson,” he wrote on the page. “I want to do a Sponsored Bike Ride for Haiti because there was a big earthquake and loads of people have lost their lives. I want to make some money to buy food, water and tents for everyone in Haiti.”
Charlie surpassed his original goal of £500 by about £69,500 or by 14058%.
