73 ways to improve your writing skills

Media_httpfarm5static_wflng

Improving your writing skills requires more than a daily trip to GrammarGirl.com and a pocket-size thesaurus. The key to transforming words on page from blah to wow is simple—practice, practice, practice. Practice guided by a handy list of tips helps too. Copyblogger put together just such a list with its “73 Ways to Become a Better Writer.”

A sampling:

Write without distractions.

Edit, and edit again.

Become a blogger.

Challenge yourself: write in a crowded cafe, write on the toilet, write for 24 hours straight.

Go back and cut 10% from your word count.

When in doubt, cut it out.

Kill clunky sentences.

Work on brilliant headlines.

I don't have time to write on the toilet but I get some of my best ideas driving, once I was so inspired I found myself 70miles from home before I figured out I'd gone a ways.
