A traffic cop for satellites
Satellite crashes may be rare, but when they happen, the impact can be long-lasting. In orbit, chunks and fragments from a crash won't settle down. They'll keep moving -- extremely rapidly -- upping the odds of additional crashes.
Satellite operators are teaming up to run a collision avoidance network. The network aims to include spacecraft from NASA, NOAA, the military and other countries.
