Nothing makes a parent long for a ranch-style house like a baby on the move. Suddenly, that seemingly innocuous means of getting from one floor to another becomes a death trap.
House guests may complain that your home has more gates than a prison, but research published in the journal Pediatrics shows one good way to prevent stair injuries is to install gates at the top and bottom.
Another disturbing fact about the 90,000 injuries in 2008 from falls down the steps were that a quarter of those that happened to children under the age of one occurred while in the arms of a caretaker.
Just think, once they can successfully navigate the steps, it’s time to start worrying about them climbing over the gates. Nope, the terror never ends.
