How to Help Alltop

There are three ways to help spread the word about Alltop.

1. Email newsletter. Approximately once per week we send out news about Alltop to our community members. To sign up for this list, please send an email to the address below. You’ll get an email confirmation. Reply to it, and you're done. About 900 people subscribe to our newsletter.

 news-subscribe@alltop.com

2. Twitterfeed service. This is the bleeding edge of Alltop evangelism. It means that when we post a new-topic announcement at the Alltop blog (http://blog.alltop.com/), a tweet will automatically appear from you. Some of your followers may (a) wonder why you're tweeting about subjects like you never have before and (b) get bent out of shape for the "spam." Sign up at the web page below. About 650 people have done this.

If you change your mind later, just come back and de-enlist youself.

3. Share on Twitter or Facebook. Every Alltop page has buttons to share the page with your friends or followers. Dozens of people do this every day.

Thanks so much for the help. Let us know if we can help you in any way.

Sounds like a great idea, Guy, thanks! Good way to use the community features and build up a bit of a buzz.

Will do Guy. I turned off the initial Alltop alerts for the reasons you describe but will give this a shot. I've become a big fan of Alltop Sales and am looking forward to Alltop Business Intelligence.

I'm glad to see this. There's only one downside to having several Guy Kawasaki fans as Twitter friends, and that's seeing Alltop alerts appear fifteen times in your Twitter stream.

Letting your followers choose which links to pass on has manyfold benefits. It restores the value of Twitter as a conduit for passing on relevant links (I know my friend posted the link because he thought it was interesting, not just because he handed over the keys to his account), and therein likely improves the number of clickthroughs and satisfied visitors.

Great work!

Oh, Guy! You have given me the heartiest laugh with this: "The worst case would have been a pastor tweeting about Buddhism while endorsing hunting, admitting addiction and mental health issues after getting pregnant. That just wouldn’t have flown."

What a Thanksgiving gift! I have subscribed and will make the announcements manually. Have a happy one!

Great idea. The alltop feed confused my followers, so I had to stop it. This will work better.

That "worst case" example was brilliant. :D

Great idea. Personal re-tweets or messages are better than the autofeed anyway. Have a happy Thanksgiving!

Precisely the reason I didn't do the autoAlltopTweets. Definitely signing up for the emails. Terrific alternative.

Great idea to use the social intelligence aspect of the media to filter and target!

If I'm none of the above, does that make me insensitive? ;) Well, ok, half Buddhist, but none of the rest!

I have watched Alltop grow explosively - as good ideas will do, no matter the state of the economy.
More important, Alltop has become positively addictive as an online resource, not only for me, but for The Whole Damn Net and has today been designated as "The Most Addictive Website" at http://www.TheWholeDamnNet.com
Also, a big Mahalo for adding the Your Future, Your Past link to the Genealogy page at Alltop.com
Cheers!

Thank you for this; as much as I adore Alltop.com, I still want to be selective regarding what I promote. Awesome!

Guess it was more than just five people who complained about the multiple Tweets.

Glad to see you guys actually did something about it... this might save me from having to unfollow any more Alltop-lovers.

OK, i need some help. You all clearly understand how to create buzz for platforms and ideas that have and add value to our lives.

I have started a small online community, the purpose of which is to allow people and companies to freely share Culture, Knowledge and Experience - i guess you could say it is going to be like Facebook but based on WHAT you know, and what you want to know vs. WHO you know (and who you lost touch with for perfectly good reasons)

So, my question is this. How does one go about gaining "escape velocity" ??? We have around 300 users in our first 15 days of being ONLINE. I want to promote this community, but do not want to spam. I want to see user count grow, but need your thoughts on...DO you pay to advertise, or, do you trust that it will grow organically?

Again, I am not posting here to get free eyes - I honestly and earnestly would love feedback, advice, help, wisdom, harsh criticism, etc.

You all clearly "get it". Teach me.

Thanks

T.Rex

The email option is great, thanks. I don't understand why Alltop Hunting and Mental Health aren't treated equally with other topics re announcements. Please advise.

How about sharing a daily digest featuring a human curated top articles from each category? I know many people in my industry (media and social media) who would love to get the 5 posts they need to read everyday in an email digest, even if it's just a sample and links. I'd be happy to curate this once in a while, I'm sure we could get 13 other contributors and we've got an editorial calendar!
