Alternate view of the Tiananmen Tank Man
On June 5, 1989, a day after China’s violent crackdown on the Tiananmen protests, a man in a white shirt and black slacks stood in front of advancing Chinese military tanks. AP photographer Jeff Widener captured a photo of the incident as he sat sick on the balcony of his sixth floor room at the Beijing Hotel. The photo went on to become one of the most iconic images of the century, but it was not the only photograph shot of the so-called Tank Man. Another, wider angle, and less known photograph shot that day shows exactly what the anonymous man was facing that June morning.
