Apple ditches CD in iTunes logo

Media_httpfarm5static_yrixa

Steve Jobs strolled onto the stage at Apple’s 2010 Fall Event sporting a slightly tweaked look—a crew neck replaced the usual mock-turtleneck and the wash on his beloved Levis appeared a tad bit less dad jean-esque. Steve wasn’t the only one sporting a new look though; the iTunes logo underwent a makeover too. Abandoning the out-of-date CD imagery, the revamped logo features a rotund double-clef note in a blue circle.

What do you think of the new look—both Steve’s and iTunes’?

Personally I find the logo's not-quite-glow and the silhouetted clef note to be dated and ugly.

My only complaint is that it doesn't match the style of the rest of Apple's app icons. Which makes it stand out a bit awkwardly.

But who knows, I got used to Quicktime's new icon. :/

I liked the mock turtle neck on Jobs. The old icon on the CD tells a better story than the new icon on the circle.

@UrVirtualWizard but it's an old story; I've not put a CD in my computer for years, and most people are moving away from using them as well; Apple's focus--if you don't consider it so already--will be on downloading/streaming music; CDs are archaic and do not represent what iTunes is about at all any more.

I like how they maintained a gentle nod-to-the-CD in the circular shape, even if unintentional. They also seem to have taken the blue from the original icon's notes and incorporated that into the background. That, in turn, seems to dovetail nicely with the iOS equivalent icon, which also happens to incorporate a circle. Of course in that case the color is purple. Whaddaya gonna do. :)

Bottom line: This is all subjective. As for me, I'm having a tougher time parsing the now largely gray navigation in iTunes 10!
