Baby deer faces off with lion at National Zoo

Visitors to Washington DC’s National Zoo witnessed nature in action up-close recently after a baby deer hopped into the lion enclosure. One of the lions took a swat and frolicked after the panicked deer until Bambi took a dive in to the moat surrounding the big cat pen. Onlookers cheered “go go go,” rooting on the side of the little deer.

Zoo keepers lured the lions inside before coming to the aid of the injured deer. Sadly, after assessing the deer’s condition, veterinarians decided to euthanize the animal.

Tons of zoology tidbits.

Most folks only see any type of cat hunting when Fluffy goes berserk over an errant fly.

I used to work at Chester Zoo in the UK. Two swans landed in the lion enclosure and the lions started to tear them apart. A horrified crowd had gathered and people started to look at me saying "Are you gonna get in there and do something about that?"

Er ... no! Would you?

"Sadly, after assessing the deer’s condition, veterinarians decided to euthanize the animal." … After which, they fed the baby dear back to the lion. :P

You will be sad to here that a young elephant passed away at Chester Zoo after developing a virus. We were down on holiday from Scotland, staying at one of the Ramada hotels in Chester, when we had taken the kids to the Zoo as a holiday treat - but me and my partner over heard the news, poor thing. The kids did not know anything so they had a great time. Apart from that I would still recommend the Zoo to anyone who loves animals.
