Books to baubles: Old books get new life as jewelry
This holiday season why not skip the gift certificate to Borders and surprise the bookworm you love with a piece of truly novel jewelry? Designer Jeremy May uses the books to create his unique pieces as well as present them. Explains May:
“Littlefly jewelry is made by laminating hundreds sheets of paper together, then carefully finishing to a high gloss. The paper is selected and carefully removed from a book, and the jewelry re-inserted in the excavated space.”
“The beauty of the jewels extends within the piece: text and images pass all the way though the object, only exposed at the surfaces – giving a tantalizing glimpse of the book within.”
Perhaps the age of the book isn’t over after all. Take that, Kindle!
