‘Breathing’ battery saves energy for rainy day
A new low-cost, “air-breathing” battery has the capacity to store between eight and 24 hours’ worth of energy.
Sri Narayan (above), professor of chemistry at USC, and his team have dramatically improved the efficiency of iron-air batteries, which saw a surge in interest during the 1970s energy crisis.
“Iron is cheap and air is free,” says Narayan. “It’s the future.”
