They do have a point. They have much better Healthcare than we do. And that comes after spending 18 years in the Healthcare field on my part.

America has WAY better hospitals & doctors than Canada. About 80% of the US population has healthcare coverage. What is this "at least we have healthcare"?

I was with a Canadian doctor who told me if that you wanted a non-emergency MRI, you'd have to wait a year!

That wasn't Brian Day was it? I had to wait about 2 weeks. To be fair they told me it could be 2 to 3 months.

My autistic cousin needed a battery of tests to determine the cause of his bowel problems. He had to wait exactly one day in a rural part of Canada. You can always find examples of where socialized health care fails. Perhaps 1% of time in Canada (no idea on actual number) but the 20% of the US which does not have health care at all the system has completely failed.

The 80% which do have health care may not be as well covered as they like. Your coverage in Canada is ALWAYS completely covered, those 80% cannot have pre-existing conditions, HMOs decide on what tests get run, etc... See Sicko for some anecdotal evidence that the American Health care system is in crisis.

Oh, and why are you the ONLY industrialized nation without socialized health care? Doesn't that seem at all strange to you folks?

Why do Canadians come to America for the best health care treatments then?

Canadians have every reason to be extremely proud of their healthcare system (and they are). EVERYONE has access and not just those who can afford it, and they're proud of that. With 10x the population the US is bound to have more experts in certain areas and that will always be true.

80% in America may be covered.... until they actually need medical care - then they are dropped. :-D

And... your economy sucks because of it... I guess it's easier with 20 million mostly white / genetically-homogenous people, than with the bigger ticket item of 350 million.

90% also live within 100 miles of the US border... probably to jump across and use our hospitals when the line is too long for the cancer treatment (meaning the govie would save money by letting you die while standing in line).

Also helps to slough-off defending the world from evil to the US while everyone else floats along in the wagon-cart being towed for free.

Having lived in the US for 10+ years, and in Canada for 30+, it is very apparent that the average care available to the average resident is better--and universally available--in Canada. Both systems sometimes fail specific individuals, but those failings appears to be rare in Canada and increasingly frequent in the US. And don't get me started on limited networks of primary care providers, mandatory specialst-referral letters, insurance billing paperwork, and heaps of other systematic inefficiencies in the US!

If roads, highways, fire, and police services are obvious public goods, why is healthcare any less so?

I'll take Canadian healthcare over a hockey victory any day...

How many people here in the US do you personally know who have either no healthcare insurance, or have filed bankruptcy due to medical expenses? I know several people here in California. All are middle class.

Hey, they've got widespread socialism, widespread revolting healthcare, widespread free speech problems, and now widespread poor loser mentality. How perfectly "Canadian."

Why does everything turn political? Each country has good things and bad things so move on.

US beat Canada in a hockey game we were supposed to get creamed in. In the end unless the US wins the gold, this win was meaningless.

I went to med school in Canada. I have been practicing in America for 10+ years. The reason I switched is because America pays their physicians better. By better, I mean more. However, when speaking of health care access and quality of care. Canada wins, by far. Sorry fellow Americans this is just one we can't argue with.

Yeah, good old USA health care: No, no waiting here. Except when you need to make an appointment in August to see a specialist in February.
