Clack, clack, ding: A typewriter concerto [video]
Cellos, violins, violas, and…typewriters?! While not typically thought of as a musical instrument, the typewriter can jazz up the the same old orchestral piece with a perfect pitch clack, ding, and slide.
In 1950, composer Leroy Anderson devised an orchestral piece featuring the unique musical stylings of a typewriter in the leading role. Austrian percussionist Martin Breinschmid dusted off the arrangement and wiped the cobwebs off an old typewriter to perform the unique piece at Germany’s Strauß Festival.
