Could Firefox be a Facebook killer?

Could FireFox, the browser from Mozilla, be a Facebook killer? Mozilla is working on ways to make your online indentity just that: YOUR online identity, not something that’s stored on a company’s server or a site’s cookie. Another way of looking at this is that Mozilla could make OpenID useful for mere mortals.

Interesting proposition but I'm not sure Guy. Facebook's market position and head start may be unstoppable!

Sure FB may have a head start - but sometimes competition from a big fish can drive a company to listen more. FB is not voted as having a great interface. So nothing but good can come out of it - except one more profile we will need to create.

Interesting. I seem to be in a minority in that Facebook is the one social media tool that I like least.

ever heard of http://flock.com? Mozilla creation as well. Not sure they're trying to "Kill" FB.

No way. Facebook is at the finish line and Firefox barely out the gates... Will this revolutionise Social Media? Or will it create just another Identity channel? I think it's the latter. And if your answer to the first question is NO, then Facebook will remain the market leader.

The 1 positive impact this may have is the push for Facebook to innovate MORE, create a much better UI and listen to their users who are saying "Make this what I want it to be." It isn't right now, but serious possibility of competition may just be the catalyst to drive the innovation necessary.

I think Mozilla managing your identity is orthogonal to Facebook's feature set.
