Critically-endangered Cross River gorillas caught on camera [video]

Numbering only about 250 individuals, the Cross River gorilla has been decimated by human activities in its home on the border between Cameroon and Nigeria, and even in the sanctuary that’s been supported by the governments of the U.S., Cameroon and Nigeria among other organizations, the elusive species has almost never been seen.

“The footage provides us with our first tantalizing glimpses of Cross River gorillas behaving normally in their environment,” says Christopher Jameson, director of the Takamanda Mone Landscape Project, to the Christian Science Monitor. “A person can study these animals for years and never even catch a glimpse of the gorillas, much less see anything like this.”
