Dinosaur flatulence to blame for global warming?
Fartosaurus? Research published by British scientists in the journal Current Biology points to the flatulence of dinosaurs as a cause of climate warming during the Jurassic period.
The high fiber intake of vegetarian dinos like the Brontosaurus produced an estimated 520 million tons of methane gas. Researchers arrived at that number after noting the similarity in digestive systems between modern cows and the Sauropod species of the extinct creatures. Picturing 520 million tons of stink cloud floating around the atmosphere might prove difficult, but note that the current output of today’s cattle population is only 50-100 million tons.
