Bad news for folks replacing Prozac with a Long John: the British Dietetic Association (BDA) reports that consuming sugary foods like doughnuts can trigger depression.

A BDA spokeswoman explains:

“We tend to crave sugary and fatty foods for a quick mood fix, but the sugar crash that follows could make you feel worse…Our mood is determined by a steady supply of energy from blood glucose to the brains.”

Don’t cry over the loss of sweet treats just yet though because the BDA does give the thumbs up to dark chocolate for a mood-boosting dessert.

A heaping dose of health news.
