Every click you take, Facebook will be watching you

Do I hear a Facebook-Police mash-up in the works? Sounds possible, if a new interview with an anonymous Facebook employee proves legit. You see, because, like Sting, every step you take, every (online) move you make, Facebook will be watching you.

The chatty former Facebooker revealed some juicy details about the goings-on at the world’s most popular social networking site to TheRumpus.com. The ex employee claims that any interaction preformed on the site — pokes, profile clicks, photo uploads — is tracked by Facebook.

Check out the full interview that includes tidbits about a master password, the role of the site’s Chief Privacy Officer and “eye-tracking.”

Does it really surprise you that Facebook might track what you are doing on their website? When I saw this title I wasn't the least bit surprised. I was more interested because I wanted to see what other people's responses might be. By the way, I like the Facebook pic you posted with the little eyes and the caption. Haha! :)

No surprise here. Huge data for demographic and profile research.

Uh, what is so shocking about this fact? Facebook would be stupid not to track what their users are doing in as much detail as possible. How do you know what your users are doing, where they are getting stuck at, what they find most useful, etc.

This may also shock you, but if every website operator knew how to do it, they would do it also. As tools get better and advances are made in ROI and tracking, more and more sites will be better equipped to track these kinds of things more effortlessly.
