The art of striptease, from burlesque to exotic dancers, remains pretty much unchanged since the early days of flinging off clothes on a public stage. Sure, the advent of breast implants and lower back tattoos has altered the look of some performers, but the basic idea has stayed the same.
Dr. Charles H. McCaghy, a professor of sociology at Bowling Green State University, specializes in the study of deviance and his interest in the topic has led to a collection of materials documenting the history of stripping. Included in his collection, photographs of strippers and burlesque performers from the late 19th century.
