Facebook just isn’t what it’s used to be. A recent article in AdWeek suggests that young folks—alienated from a previous, more exclusive version of the social network—are flocking away. The article uses some new data from comScore, which says that:

…the average number of minutes spent online with the site among 18- to 24-year-olds fell in September for the third consecutive month compared to the same period a year ago. And the drop-off rate is accelerating. In July, usage fell 3 percent, in August 13 percent and in September 16 percent

There are, naturally, a number of possible explanations for the drop. Maybe the 18- to 24-year-old demographic has already peaked. Or maybe the drop is not yet indicative of a larger trend. The article also reports that half the number of respondents thought social networking was diluting the quality of their friendships. But if the site My Parents Joined Facebook is any indication, maybe it has to do with the fact that older folks have shown up at the party.

Thanks for posting Noelle (and friends.) I think the issue isn’t who is on board or jumping off the FB bandwagon. Instead, we ought to be thinking how the application tool of FB is helping your community/ ministry or relationships.
