First kiss more memorable than losing virginity
Posted by staff / January 11, 2011Remember your first kiss? Whether at a playground, under the bleachers, or in the back of your brother’s Camaro, researchers say that 90 percent of people can recall the details of their first smooch—a memory clearer than losing their virginity.
University of Texas biologist Sheril Kirshenbaum found the science behind smooching so interesting, she penned a book titled “The Science of Kissing.” The book contains plenty of lip locking trivia tidbits that could provide perfect conversation for a first date, happy hour pick-up, or chatty one-night-stand.
A few smoochable highlights (pop a mint):
- Women attempt to “extricate the significance of a relationship based on a single kiss,” but this can often lead to miscommunication with their partner.
- Women appreciate kisses more than men.
- Men are more aggressive kissers and pass testosterone to women through saliva.
- 278 colonies of bacteria are passed between open-mouthed smoochers.
