Foreigner ban in Netherlands' cannabis shops
If wandering Amsterdam in a marijuana haze was on your bucket list, better get that plane ticket before year’s end.
The right-wing government of the Netherlands is putting the slap down on stoned tourists by banning them from the country’s famous coffee shops and requiring residents to buy a limited number of year-long memberships to the shop of their choice.
Some parts of the Netherlands have already banned sale of cannabis to foreigners, including Maastricht and Terneuzen with three southern provinces following suit by the end of this year. The government hopes the ban will cut down on crime and improve the health of the nation.
Question is, do you really want to wander the rest of the red light district sober?
