Frequent Facebook-er? You could be a narcissist.

Facebook users who flood your news stream with mundane status updates and multiple photo sets of their Flag Day celebrations likely display real-life narcissism tendencies. Researchers at York University examined the connection between Facebook activity and real-world personality traits in a study called “Self-Presentation 2.0: Narcissism and Self-Esteem on Facebook.”

The results reveal that people with comparatively lower self-esteem and higher levels of narcissism spent more time perusing and posting on Facebook than those with higher self-esteem and lower narcissism scores. The more narcissistic participants also displayed more “self-promotion” by posting things that excessively push positive qualities.
