One should show more respect for their food.

  • JMAC

Adorable clip but I cringe everytime I see a dog in water. I live in Fl. Alligators galore!

  • This dog isn’t cute, she is in control and that is the owner’s fault.

Give the dog one command; if it doesn’t obey, you correct the dog.

“Bella; Come on; Bella, Come on”. Get a grip lady, that dog has established herself as the alpha and you are simply her amusement.

Besides, who gives a German Shepherd an Italian name? No wonder the dog ignores you.

  • Nanette Valencia

    Awww, sweetheart, let her be

  • Crystal Stevens

@Jack, you are right but my guess is she kept doing it for the video. Take a chill pill.

  • Dan

It’s not cute….it’s a dog that doesn’t obey. Change “Bella, get out of the water” to “Bella, stop biting that child” and what is considered ‘cute’ is immediately seen for what it is, an animal the owner cannot control and thus is an animal that poses a risk. Dogs….especially LARGE dogs like this one always carry the potential of harming someone. Allowing them to dictate what happens magnifies that risk.

I used to walk my English Labrador on a trail in Maryland where a stream ran next to it. On our way back, she would look at me as we neared a section where she could get in the water and of course, I’d take the leash off and let her jump in. She had such fun there. As we neared the trail every morning there were too many stop lights (obviously) as she’d sit in the back of my Jeep and CRY until we got there – in anticipation of her daily walk. There were at one point several foxes up the trail and she would glance at me and I’d just say “shush” and we would stand there (at a distance) and let them play. She was very patient and protective of me. How I miss her so much!

  • Betty

We recently lost our GSD at age 16 and I love the breed. But this video was amusing for about 5 seconds. Any owner of this smart, powerful breed should always be in complete control. This GS is clearly the alpha of this pack and that is not good. It might end up costing the dog it’s life.

  • Dutch McGee

The treat (or rock) tossed in the water at the beginning of the clip is what frustrated the dog. It would be entertaining if that was edited out.

  • NOT CUTE TO ME

i get so tired of these cruel idiots posting these “cute” animal stories that are nothing short of cruelty to these poor souls. These idiots have no business having a dog..to keep repeating what’s obviously disturbing to animals is NOT cute….IDIOT!

  • Darryl Miller

Bella, your master is an irritating pig and should die of ovarian cancer.

  • bob

I agree with most of the posters here, that the owner is not in complete control of the dog. I anticipate the same scene in other situation. The dog will not follow command and would continue to chase something or someone, not “come” when called. Dangerous if the dog has poor disposition towards another human or animal.

  • I was told that dogs respond best to short commands . Lengthy commands are confusing to the animal . I trainer I heard would have said give the command ” Bella , come ” in a firm steady voice , never sound like you are pleading with the animal in question , that gives them the authority if you sound unsure . So with that i wouldn’t be sure if Bella is having a fit about coming out of the water or if she doesn’t comprehend what is being asked of her .

  • GH

I think the person was in control, just simply playing with the dog. I think the command word is “come”. If you will notice, she kept saying it was time to go. The first and only time she said “come”, the dog immediately left the water.

  • Bella is clearly frustrated because she has dropped or lost something in the water. Probably the rock. That’s why she appears to be digging at the water and crying. It’s the rock.

  • jesse james

Jack, Dan and Betty must keep their dogs on a chain or in a backyard kennel at all times, just to show them Who’s Boss….

  • Joe

    Bella in charge .

  • suz

Dan Keep quiet when you don’t know what you are talking about. As an ex-breeder of German Shepherds, I resent your accusations. Shepherds usually love water, and I agree the owner is allowing it to go on for the video. There is no correlation here this dog is going to bite a child. Every dog has the potential of biting not just big ones. Do your homework before opening your mouth.

  • Robin

@Darryl Miller, Really? you are a pig and I dont care what you die from. Just do it!!!!

  • truth.com

In an age of cynicism and hate, all you Dog Whisperers come out of the woodwork with talmk of control and obedience and the like…. Lighten up ‘just’ a little? Just saying….

  • JoAnn

Or maybe it’s just a fun ritual they do all the time…. Some people read way more into things they see… To me it looks like she is playing and the lady is laughing… It’s not like she is yelling at her to get out of water… I talk to my dogs like that too and they get all crazy playful and “talk” just like that… And when it’s time to listen they do just that… Looks to me like a cute video that she took of her dog cuz it’s funny.. And at least she is doing something with “Bella” and not just another dog that is on end of a chain or forgotten about in the back yard… Sheesh…

  • Benedikt Morak

nothing cute about it. i do not know who the two ladies `(voices) are. but the ALPHA dog is Bella. and that is wrong. the ALPHA =dog= must be always the human owner. and it needs also a firm voice. ONE command, and `bella must come out. never mind it is fun or not. That is the way how German shepherds are being bred and trained. has nothing to do, but oh,i love my dog and all this. this way Bella just gets more and more spoiled and domineering. and that can not be.

  • Bruce Zachmann

Darryl Miller- That’s a horrible thing to say. What kind of a person says something like that. My wife happens to be dying of Ovarian Cancer right now and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone friend or foe. You sir should be ashamed of your self to say the least!

  • What the dog can’t enjoy being in the water. Don’t you guys understand they are only do that because they think it is cure and to let us enjoy this dog having fun. They are not serious So get over it

  • Stace

@Dan – You’re comparing swimming to biting? You’re an idiot. Do you have any kids? Do they throw tantrums? My point exactly. Shut up.

  • Kathy

Yes, this GSD is truly in control of this situation, but it doesn’t show that the owner is not the alpha in her life. And, YES, as Suz said, any dog, large or small, has the potential to bite someone. As a 47+ year owner of GSDs, they absolutely need to have an alpha in control, but that factor alone does not rule out the ability to bite someone. As an x-dog trainer, the only dogs I have ever been bitten by are the “foo-foo” ones, the “bedroom slipper” dogs. Never had any large dogs even attempt to take a piece of my flesh. Maybe I was just lucky. I think not. Shepherds usually give some warning signs before they think about biting……..the little ones just turn around and take hold. I once walked across my friends kitchen with her foo-foo firmly attached to the back of my calf. She had no intention of letting go until her owner yanked her away. German Shepherds are very protective of the ones they love, and for that I salute them.

  • Elizabeth

All of you pigs who see no sense of control in the owner who continues to call her dog but gets no response, but have nothing but bad things to say about her? All of you are missing the point of a wonderful game she is playing with her dog. The dog is communicating with owner. The lady is teasing her dog who definitely knows she is being teased and replies verbally with a tease of her own. This happens every time they go to the water apparently. I have 6 dogs who have 6 different personalities and all like to be teased in different ways, and will reciprocate to me in kind. You people need to enjoy your animals and get a sense of humor, or at least find one, if that is possible! If that is not possible, I feel dreadfully sorry for you to have to go through this life without the benefit of the joy of a dog like this joyful dog!

  • Darryl Miller Glory Hole Specialist

Poor Bella. Dog is having fun. I wouldn’t get out if I had to listen to that drawl or twang or f’ed up accent all the time. If I were Bella, and i’m not, I’d swim for freedom and find someone that didn’t sound like an idiot. Sad thing is that the kids sound the same the same red-neck inbred hilly billies. Bella, its time to go, swim for freedom.

  • Sandy

I thought that Germans follow instructions.

  • STEVEN

THESE PEOPLE ARE DUMB AND CRUEL.THEY THROW A ROCK IN THE WATER AND THE POOR DOG
    IS OBSESSED AND STRESSED OUT,TOOLS!!

  • Cher Z

Boy there are a lot of idiots on the internet that whine about every little thing. Especially when it comes to animals. It was a cute video. You DON’T know the dog. You DON’T know the owner. You saw two minutes. Shut up!

  • DeeAnne

Wow – idiots ablaze….the dog is being allowed to play…no real commands here and I’m sure if a dangerous situation were at hand the mom could deal. My dogs live to chase rocks..sticks..toys etc
into the water…they yelp and roll and have a wonderful time..tails wagging. People need to stop being so crazy here. Saying people should die and all dogs must be perfect 100% command robots..jesus people – relax

  • Sharon

I had a Yorkie that our play would be me telling her to get over here. She would run around the trees in circles with me chasing her. It was a lot of fun for both of us. But when I quit chasing and gave a command to ‘come’. She knew play time was over and she came to me. Same thing here. They are playing and the GS doesn’t look in distress to me, just reacting to their play time. People need to lighten up!!

  • DO NOT VIDEO IN PORTRAIT, EVAR! Sheesh!!!!

  • Some fit!!! That was cute watching the dog not wanting to get out of the water!!! I would have been laughing at the dog…not thinking it was throwing a fit!!! Very cute video!!

  • Dutch McGee

All of this is nonsense. The dog is looking for whatever was thrown in the water. There is no “alpha” …no commands are given. The dog searches for whatever was thrown in, while owners add “entertaining commentary”.

  • D. A.

I agree, not cute. This dog (and the owner) need a lot more obedience training. Just like parents with a child. Obey the first time. Not continual “Bella or Johny or Susie” over and over.

  • Chris Juleff

Why do people have to be so mean and hateful and over a dog video? I work in a shelter and I see bad owners. Not everyone s a trainer or a dog whisperer but I sure am grateful for those that love their dogs and try their best to do right by them. That shepherd and her owner will never do as much harm as all the hateful words I have read in these comments. When you know better you do better! Bruce I am so very sorry your wife is dying of cancer.

  • Wow, all you “experts” out there need some lessons on how to handle an animal. My dad trained all his dogs to ride horses, climb ladders, and much more. But when it was time to play, he and they would “talk” to each other, and he’d laugh and so would they. It was wonderful to watch him work and play with his animals. He spoke to them barely above a whisper. When my dad died, Hannah (last dog he owned) slept on his jacket from that day forward. Bella seemed to be having fun and it was just a game her owner allowed her to play. She wasn’t frustrated or an alpha. She was being a dog that loved playing in the water. Many years ago, my lab (a year old) once jumped out of the car while it was still moving when she saw “her” pond we went to for swimming. My dog would follow hand commands and never had a leash while walking. When she got old and had cancer she began to snap at children if they tried to bother her, but never once tried to bite. Get a grip “experts”!

  • All you “experts” need some lessons in animal training. I learned how to train my dogs from my dad. He taught me to speak to them barely above a whisper. They followed hand commands and never needed a leash. But, when it was play time we’d “talk” back to each other and I’d let them play at things that they didn’t get to do otherwise when they were working. My dogs were happy, never attempted to bite, and would always watch for my for my commands when strangers were around.

  • I enjoyed the video but not the nasty rude comments . Sometimes you just need to enjoy the moment. This was one of those times.

  • Kaylin Garbos

Bella is a cutie. It’s clear she loves her water playtime. I’m sorry for all the rude comments about being her “master” and such. Some people have control issues. Bella is a happy pup who just wants five more minutes of playtime at the lake. Just like a child would beg for five more minutes at the playground. I say give her five more minutes of play! Then back to the house for a bath.

  • blah

It’s cute, but their voices are grating.
