Grand Canyon to stop the sale of bottled water
Seeing the Grand Canyon is on the bucket list of people the world over, but if you’re planning a visit, be sure to bring your own water bottle.
An initial ban meant to be put in place in 2010 was quashed by pressure from Coca-Cola, yet a 100,000-signature petition from Change.org gave the Grand Canyon the boost it needed to finally move forward.
Starting next month, the sale of bottled water will be illegal at the Grand Canyon National Park. The ban is a response to the increasing problem of plastic litter around the canyon. Park officials estimate that the bottles represent 20 percent of the park's waste and 30 percent of its recyclables, reported Reuters.
There will be water stations around the park to quench your thirst and visitors are still allowed to bring their own bottles, but if you bring it in, be sure to take it out or dispose of it properly.
