  • According to Sting himself, this song always was about obsession/stalking and never meant as a love song, it’s the public that has gotten its meaning wrong.

    @PIXZEN, agreed. The Police’s meaning was painted with a delicate brush. This was a sledgehammer.

    Loved it! I always thought that the “stalker song” was made famous by “The Police.” –Especially after reading 1984. The timing, the minor key, and of course, the words put obsession into a more appropriate light. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1C7Hc6OfjwQ

  • Sting actually said the song was about surveillance not stalking per say. But disguising it as a love song made it more sinister.
