Hong Kong develops social networking site to honour their deceased

Residents of Hong Kong were given access to a new way to honour their departed loved ones this week, after the nation’s Food and Environmental Hygiene Department launched a government-operated website that enables users to set up online profiles for the dead. Users can customize their loved one’s page with preset layouts, music, and can upload photos. Visitors will be able to post comments and subscribe to reminders like the deceased’s date of birthday and date of death.

Chinese culture takes death very seriously. Elaborate ceremonies are held twice a year to honour not just the recently deceased, but also generations of ancestors before them. So, let's hope they paid for a lot of bandwidth.
