How a high number of sexual partners corresponds to creative output

According to a new study, professional artists and poets have about twice as many sexual partners as other folks. The study also revealed that the average number of sexual partners increased as creative output went up. So, the lesson here is that the more creative you are, the more sexual partners you should have.

I feel like this is a chicken and egg situation. Is a person creative because they’re overtly sexual, or are they overtly sexual because they’re a creative type. The article attributes the results to the fact that artists are generally infuriated by the status-quo, and probably do a lot of things differently than the average person. What do you think?

Read on to learn more about why innovation is linked to an active sex life, or vice versa.

Lots more on innovation.

That's all fine and dandy but you cannot underestimate the creative drive that comes from sexual deprivation : )

Sadly I full agree. Sexual activity is highly related with creation, since it's mayor creation act in all times (you can create a person). Sharing your 'creation power' with lots of partners with certinly empower you... and make you feel free. Think of Bob Marley for instance...

This just seems like a correlation; it by no means assumes that one variable causes the other. Stating that creative output (if you can even measure that) increases with more sexual partners is as relevant as saying "a study revealed that the average number of sexual partners decreased as the number of raisins one eats went up. Lesson: don't eat raisins!" Stupid notion.

creativity is transcendent -- it's spiritual, out of this world. After creativity, humans must come down to earth, so to speak, and they become carnal: sex and drugs -- any way to indulge the flesh.

The carnal? I think that's a stunted and superficial way of looking at it. Orgasms are 'zoomed out' experiences that allow you to glimpse and quickly relish in the transcendental. And as for drugs, certain drugs, psychedelics in particular, also allow you to zoom out into this 'higher' level of reality. These zoomed out type of experiences may certainly be responsible for both inspiring and forcing the creative process. Afterall, creativity - to me at least - is an attempt to language that orgasmic, transcendental ineffable. ZOOMDOUT 0_0

and you forgot to mention that a lot of those creative folks live a miserable, lonely life that ends up sadly.

Hey Reno... miserable, lonely lives that "end up sadly" are common everywhere, to everyone. It's called the 'human condition' and art & sex are two excellent ways to cope..

Vive l'pleasure!
