Once a commonplace on airplanes, airline meals have fallen out of favor as cash-strapped airlines look to trim budgets. Heck, even jokes about airplane food have dropped in popularity.

While you might not have the chance to nosh on food at 35,000 feet on domestic flights any longer, cooks still serve up dishes on many international flights and to the fancy folks in First Class.

The Science Channel’s “How It’s Made” series explains the history and process of making airline meals in an interesting segment that might just have you craving mystery meat in a cream sauce eaten with plastic utensils.
