How hotels are making your wish their command

As the travel industry heats back up, hotels are pulling out all the stops in an attempt to attract guests and set themselves apart from the competition. From rubber duckies in the bathtub to sex toys in the bedroom to gourmet snacks to tailored fitness programs—hotels are making it hard for us to say no to paying them a visit.

One of the best examples of hotels going above and beyond for guests is the Affinia group, which has properties in New York, Chicago and Washington DC. Guests can log on to a website ahead of their stay and select from a range of amenities, including acoustic guitars, golf putters, cup cakes and pillows ranging from buckwheat to magnetic therapy. There are also walking kits, including pedometers and pre-loaded iPods, and fitness kits featuring yoga mats and weights.

According to consultant Dean Dranfield, of Dransfield Hotels and Resorts, “unique is the new ordinary” when it comes to hotel stays. It’s hard to argue with that.
