How schools can use social media tools

Educators should stop thinking about how to repress the huge amounts of intellectual and social energy kids devote to social media and start thinking about how to channel that energy away from causing trouble and toward getting more out of their classes.
Children have already been learning through television and video media. Why not through social media? Schools can use social media tools to motivate students by doing the following:
- Communication: Begin the dialogue by asking students how they're already using their social networking profiles.
- Identification: Learn about the students' networking habits and identify those that may need encouragement to connect.
- Incorporation: Use tools like Wikipedia as a class project.
