How to filter out bozos on Twitter

Discovered a feature in Tweetdeck that I just love: “Global Filter.” This enables you to remove people’s tweets from your view. This completes Twitter’s “blocking” since that only prevents people from seeing your tweets and not you seeing their tweets.

This solves the philosophical question, “If someone tweets something, and you don’t see it, did the tweet really occur?” IMHO, the answer is “no.” To set this up, go to the Settings menu of Tweetdeck. It’s the wrench in the upper right corner.

Twitter is much more pleasant when you filter out bozos. Tech tip: be sure to add a comma between their names.

  1. For Mac, also check out Nambu, http://nambu.com/ . It lets you mute people and or hashtags. Forever, or for a specific period of time. Like this: http://moby.to/t9kao8 .
It also has the best read/unread management of all Twitter Apps I tried. Once a tweet is marked as read, it is so everywhere. In your timeline, and also in Twitter Lists and search results where it might appear. So mark a tweet as read and hide read tweets, and you will never see it again. That, combined with a nice UI, makes it all look very orderly.
