How to keep your Skype etiquette in check

There’s nothing more frustrating for a loyal and loving Skype user than a fellow user who abuses the Skype features they’ve learned to appreciate and respect. If you’re not sure your Skype etiquette is up to snuff, be sure to read this informative (and entertaining) post by Michael Arrington that outlines a few key ‘don’t dos’ while using the VoIP service. See a few of them below:

  • Don’t assume confidentiality. The person you’re calling or chatting with might not be alone, so if you are discussing sensitive material make sure you double check beforehand.
  • Don’t jump right into a phone call. It’s polite to send a chat message before calling to ensure the person you wish to speak to is online and ready to accept your request.
  • Don’t abuse the Enter button. Every message you send makes an annoying beep noise on the receiver’s end. To avoid a constant stream of anger-inducing beeps, try whole sentences, or paragraphs even!
