How Twitter plans to make you forget about desktop clients

Media_httptctechcrunc_ggbxb

According to this recent cryptic tweet by Twitter engineer, Alex Payne, new upcoming features may be so good that users may forget about their desktop clients altogether. Understandably, the looming news has many developers worried about their future. Last year alone, Twitter added several defining features like Retweets and Lists—so it’s hard to imagine what they could still have up their sleeves.

But, whatever the changes might be, one can only hope that Twitter remembers that simplicity has always been the core of their success.

I don't think it's gonna work, unless they make the functionality exclusive to their web app and not accessible in their API.

Twitter still has so many flaws its not even funny anymore. You can't even find your friends most of the times unless you know their email or you let twitter go through all your accounts. Huhhh!!

Twitter can't keep it simple because they still aren't making any money, they need to find revenue streams

Another step in gaining control of their own content (just like the new RT function). Gotta get it all together so they can sell corps those analytics accounts! :) Props to Twitter.

We'll see whether they can really produce something that won't want to make me use a desktop client - managing multiple accounts springs to mind. As does having Twitter in something that isn't Firefox - I have so many tabs open I'd never be able to find it anyway.
