It’s minke time! Antarcticaminke whaleMinke whalesNational Geographic ExpeditionsNational Geographic Explorer Voyage
What do you do when you’re in a small inflatable boat in Antarctica and a minke whale suddenly pops up on your port side and starts checking you out?
- Grab your camera
- Try not to fall overboard
- Expect a blast of fish breath
Minke whales grow to 35 feet long and weigh up to 20,000 pounds. They don’t eat people, preferring krill, which explains their bad breath.
