Kids are what their dads eat
It's already been established that a woman's diet can affect a baby's health, but it now appears that mothers aren't the only ones. What a father eats can have an impact on his children's health as well by reprogramming how their genes function.
The study suggests that a better understanding of the environment experienced by parents, such as diet, may be a useful clinical tool for assessing disease risk for illnesses, including diabetes and heart disease.
“Knowing what your parents were doing before you were conceived is turning out to be important in determining what disease risk factors you may be carrying,” says Oliver Rando, associate professor of biochemistry and molecular pharmacology at the University of Massaschusetts.
