Before or after... I really like LinkedIn, but I've been always missing one piece of extremely useful information that is still missing in the after version. A field called "What you're looking for?".

The German "LinkedIn" called XING has it: http://bit.ly/qlTbE They call this field wants.

When I'm looking for employees or someone who looks for what I have to offer, I just run a search on "wants" and get the list right away. Too bad LinkedIn is not adding it for such a long time.

BTW, the above screenshots compare the *View* my profile with *Edit* my profile view.

I agree with Thomas that a "What you're looking for?" button would be useful on LinkedIn. Not only would it be useful to let employers know what you're looking for, but it would also help with the employee/recruiter relationship.

It's great to receive messages from recruiters when they have applicable opportunities and when you're looking for a new job...but it's annoying when you're not looking, or when the opportunities they have to offer couldn't be further from what you're looking for.

I'm sure it's annoying (and extremely time consuming) for recruiters shooting in the dark hoping to get a 'yes' response from Linkedin connections as well.

Maybe this is what the status updater on LinkedIn is intending for...?

All right, I'll try to navigate thru again. I never got hold of it.

@SophieBifield I think that status might have been the intention, but it doesn't communicate this intention very well. In contrast the "What you're looking for?" field that XING calls "Wants" in their profile is really clear and helpful.

It's slightly nicer and more user-friendly. Although I'd love for them to be more clear on how on earth you can complete that profile to 100%!!!!

Lately, when it came to redesigns, I found myself constantly saying: "I liked the other one better!"
From the screens I saw, this seems a successful redesign, so as a LinkedIn user I give them my thumbs up! :)
