Medieval business was less keen on greed
Beliefs about how much greed is good, or even just okay, have made a turnaround in the last 500 years, according to Stanford University historian Laura Stokes.
“A medieval businessman would surely be impressed by the successes of his modern descendants, but he would also despise them as men without honor or virtue,” she says.
