Midlife crisis is a myth
Don’t blame Uncle Sal’s wife-ditching, Porsche-buying, and toupee-wearing on the old midlife crisis cliche because experts say the idea that 40 to 50-something freak outs are common is just a myth.
Instead, experts link crises to traumatic events—like a career speed bump, death of a friend or relative, or an illness—that can happen at any age.
“There can be times when things crystallize as very problematic, a very deep disturbance in your life,” life researcher Alexandra Freund told LiveScience.com. “People experience these types of crises, but they are not at all related to age.”
