Mindbending photos of the sun

NASA launched the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) in February, 2010. These are some of the early images from the SDO. Its five-year mission is to “examine the sun’s magnetic field and also provide a better understanding of the role the sun plays in Earth’s atmospheric chemistry and climate.”
